WWTP Pump Replacement Project
WWTP Operators recently completed the replacement of the
fermenter recirculation pump and installation of the
associated piping. The total cost for the project was $18,000
($16,000 for the pump). The recirculation pump system was
installed in the 2007-2009 plant expansion as part of the new
Fermenter System, and is used to recirculate the sludge from
the bottom of the fermenter to the top. The recirculation of the sludge promotes the
development of volatile fatty acid used in the nutrient removal
process. The fermenter sludge is gritty, corrosive material
that causes the pump components to deteriorate and
malfunction.
The Operators installed a new Moyno positive displacement
pump which required considerable piping changes, but will
function more efficiently as this pump style and components are designed for this type of
application and sludge material.

2. City Clerk/Communications
Our communications office and Media Specialist are collaborating with the Recreation
Department to film and edit a short video showcasing Woodland Water Park. Additional
efforts have also included taking photos around town and at city facilities and parks to
use as `stock' photos for communication efforts.
3. Fire Department
Since the last update, the Kalispell Fire Department has received 146 calls for service and
have conducted 2 outreach trainings with approximately 60 individuals in attendance.
With the first day of summer officially here, it
reminds us to look at the weather and major fire
indices for our area. The forecast for this year is
looking like a typical wildland fire year in that
we will have fire starts throughout our area but
do not expect to see major fire growth. We
expect to see a moderate fire danger in the
valley floor areas and a high fire danger in the
upper elevations according to the Wildland Fire
Assessment System. As we move into the 4th of
July holiday, there are no fire restrictions. This
information is a brief overview for our area and
information and outlooks can change.
4. Parks and Recreation
Park staff are working to replace wallboard and FRP at the Woodland Park bathrooms
that has deteriorated over the years as part of the remodeling process. The stainless
fixtures are on order. However, there is a manufacturing delay.
After the recent repair of the underground piping for the lap pool, Woodland Water Park
developed two different pump issues. One pump had to be replaced and another one
rebuilt. Staff is working to have them repaired and installed promptly. Neither pump
issue was due to the failed piping.

A contractor has completed installing a new fence between the alley and Meridian Park
adjacent to Peterson School. This project was in partnership with Peterson School,
Public Works, and the Parks Department as utilities were updated in the alley.
As a part of the Spring Prairie Phase IV development the Kalispell Youth Athletic
Complex has received some park improvements; including a walking path between the
shopping center and KYAC, 2- shelters, benches, trashcans, and numerous trees.
We kicked off the first Picnic in the Park summer
concert with a Flathead Valley favorite, the Copper
Mountain Band. Kalispell Toyota and The Event
at Rebecca Farms were our Spotlight Sponsors for
the evening. We had a huge crowd and received
lots of positive feedback regarding our decision to
move the Tuesday night concerts up an hour to
start at 6pm.
Our two new Skyhawks Basketball camps are full with 22 participants in each camp. We
have also partnered with the Resound School of Music and Theatre to offer a new
performing arts camp June 26-30. Participants will explore and develop different skills
with singing, dancing, acting, and percussion instruments. The week will conclude with
a performance for family and friends.
Our Pee Wee and Mini Sports camps kicked off this week. These camps introduce
participants to the fundamentals of throwing, catching, and kicking while focusing on
concepts such as fitness and sportsmanship. We have 31 participants registered for the
two camps.
