TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF COUNCILMEN
CITY OF KALISPELL, MONTANA
Gentlemen:
There will be a Special Meeting of the City Council, Thursday, July 19, 1073,
in the council chambers at City Hall at 1:45 P.M. for the following purpose:
Consider Mayors Veto
We, the undersigned, being all of the members of the City Council, do hereby waive
notice of the date and purpose of the Special Meeting of the City Council to be held
1mrsday, July 19, 1973, at 1:45 P.M. in the council chambers at City Hall and consent
to the transaction of the above and any other business that may properly come before
' the City Council,
Councilman Miron absent. All other councilmen present.
Mayor Bjorneby called the meeting to order at 1:45 P.M.
Councilman Sitter moved to remove from the table the nation to override Mayors Veto
of the employment committee recommendation regarding wage offers. (Motion tabled
July 16, 1973 meeting) Seconded by Councilman Thomas. Roll Call Vote.
Councilmen Happ, Slater, Schwartz voted NO
Councilmen Knapp, Daley, Sampson, Thomas voted YES
Not a two-thirds majority and not sufficient to override the veto. Motion defeated.
Councilman Daley moved office and administrative base will be $450.00 per month
for the purpose of computing increment; and on hourly employees 3C per hour for each
year of service for computation of increment. Seconded by Councilman Sliter.
Carried.
Councilman Sliter moved to offer to city employees a 5.5% wage increase, effective
July 1, 1973, to be computed on base wage and classification and not including
longevity or overtime pay. Wage increase not to apply to anyone having worked for
the City less than 6 months as of July 1, 1973. Seconded by Councilman Schwartz.
Carried.
Councilman Knapp moved the council as a committee of the whole act as negotiating
committee for the City. Seconded by Councilman Sliter. Carried.
Councilman Thomas moved that city employees be notified that a meeting for negotiation
of wages will be held Monday, July 23, 1973 at 8:00 P.M. in the commity room in
the basement of Conrad National Bank. Seconded by Councilman Happ. Carried.

Councilman Thomas moved that firemen work a 5 day, 8 hours a day, not to
exceed a 40 hour work week, unless they agree to work overtime as done
prior to letter from Richard T. Seddon, Secretary, Local #547 International
Association of Fire Fighters, dated July 10, 1973, requesting time and one.
half for overtime. Seconded by Councilman Happ. Carried.
