FW: KGEZ Tower array duplication (2)I sent this message out to the Broadcast Engineers to get a reading on the
500' radials vs FCC filings of 410', plus the azimuth of the towers being
260 degrees instead of 240 degrees. Here is his response.
Charlie, I would like to have a legal opinion on how we will proceed with
the condemnation on the two towers to relocate them if Mr. Stokes says NO to
our action plan. In our meeting last week, John seems to feel that we will
need to condemn the entire radio station. I told him we would not want to
do that, just the towers. Could we have that by next Monday night. I would
send it on to the FAA, who has asked for a legal plan.

As usual Stokes doesn't seem to be well informed. The line of the
towers, which is shown in the FCC applications and in the FCC database,
is 240 degrees true.
The existing ground system does extend to 500 feet, but the FCC
requirement is only 410 feet, which is 1/4 wavelength. The difference
in antenna efficiency is so small as to be essentially unmeasurable, and
even the FCC requirement is overkill. You can make it 500 feet if that
would seem to be politically necessary, but it's just a waste of copper.
