county funding opportunityJane and Chuck: The Economic Development Administration (EDA) is coming out with a notice of funding for trade technical assistance grants. The grants can be used by local governments to help fund hard assets that can be tied to job creation. The hard asset has to be developed by the government unit. (buildings, industrial property that produce jobs as a result of the asset). Our organization has been working closely with the county administrator and the county commissioners to identify three top projects in the county that meet the criteria. The state EDA office has been assisting us with guidance as we choose the three projects. The funding limit is up to $1.5 million per project. We have identified three projects but I want the opportunity to pitch the funding program to you all to ask if you have anything that fits the criteria. The three projects we believe that fit in the county from our knowledge of projects out there are: 1) acquisition of property in Columbia Falls along the rail spur to be developed into an industrial park. We have two prospects in tow that need rail service. 2) Glacier International Airport is developing a few parcels of property at the North end of he runway into a business park; and 3) demolition of the buildings at the Kalispell Feed & Grain Brown field site and prepare the property as an industrial location. If you believe a project might fit the criteria and want to discuss please contact me ASAP. I didn't email Bill Shaw with you all because we are already engaged with Bill in developing an application for the CF industrial property.
