October 15 - As you may know, aviation user fees still loom on the White
House agenda for 2011. Thankfully, several key leaders in Congress --
with a keen understanding of our nation’s aviation system -- are
opposing those in the administration still pushing user fees, and will
be sending a letter later this week urging the President not to propose
user fees in his 2011 budget. Reps. Jerry Costello (D-Ill.) and Thomas
Petri (R-Wis.), the chairman and ranking member of the Transportation
and Infrastructure Committee’s Aviation Subcommittee, are currently
recruiting other members of Congress to sign on to this important
letter. We need your help to get your Representative to sign on to this
letter before it is sent to the President. The more support there is
for the Costello/Petri letter, the stronger our position with the
administration.
Call Representative Dennis Rehberg today at (202) 225-3211, identify
yourself as a constituent, and politely urge them to contact Rep.
Costello’s office by 5 pm on Friday, October 16 and sign on to the
Costello/Petri letter to the President regarding aviation user fees;
because: 1. Administrative costs and burdens make user fees an
inefficient way of financing our aviation system; and 2. Having another
debate on user fees—which have been rejected repeatedly by Congress—will
only delay progress on the much needed air transportation system
modernization. The deadline for signatures is close of business on
Friday, October 16, so it is important to contact your Representative
today to get as many co-signers on this letter as possible to send a
clear message to the Administration that User Fees will not fly. Thank

October 21 - Vigilante Hangar Meeting 6:30 PM Vetter Aviation. Dan
Ellison will be our featured speaker. Dan is a former navy pilot who
was involved in a rescue in the Yosemite Park area. This rescue was
filmed and made into a 20 minute DVD which will be shown at our meeting
with questions for Dan to follow. Dan is a local resident and past
member of the Airport Board. Plan to attend! We are looking for
those interested in serving as officers for our local Hangar in 2010.
We will elect a Sec/Trsr and a Vice President. Please contact Mike
Naegele or Chuck Flynn if you are interested...and we hope you

October 24 - MPA Board of Directors meeting in Helena following the AOM
meeting - 11:00. All MPA officers, Committee Chairs, Representatives,
Hangar Presidents and other interested parties please mark your
calendars.
November 7 - Deadline for the Nov/Dec issue of the Heading Bug.
December 1 - Deadline of Comment Period: Lewis and Clark National
Forest- Rocky Mountain Ranger District is proposing a maintenance fee of
$10 per night at the Benchmark Airstrip (3U7) - Vanderiet Memorial
Pilot's Campground. The decision has not been made yet and your
comments are important. The comment period extends through December
1st. Representatives from Montana Aeronautics Division, Montana
Pilots' Association and Recreational Aviation Foundation are scheduling
a meeting for October or November to discuss alternatives and will keep
