FW: airport (4) Fred A. Leistiko Airport Manager City of Kalispell P.O. Box 1997 Kalispell, MT 59903 406-250-3065 From: tom read [mailto:trnyr@hotmail.com] Sent: Thursday, November 12, 2009 7:43 PM To: fleistiko@kalispell.com Subject: airport I read the article in the paper about the airport expansion. There were two quotes in the article I could hardly believe. One by Dave Hoerner was to rebut the assertion that the city airport was only for those with money. He stated that there were 30 people working there who were hardly wealthy. The accusation is that it tends to serve the wealthy who are obviously not the average Joe Blow in Kalispell who can afford planes and or fly them. And now the rumored basing of private jets there, which I had never heard before this latest round. Obviously not local residents owning/operating those. We have Glacier Airport for that purpose. And the quote by Scott Richardson about there not being large jets taking off there-an idiot would know that wasn't true. Lear Jets and the like are relatively small are horribly noisy and should not be allowed to land and take off there either. Also his argument that general aviation can't be done at Glacier Airport. What do Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Missoula, Helena do about general aviation? I believe they use their one and only airports for that purpose. Truth be known it is the rude and inconsiderate pilots-not all pilots, who have ruined the welcome of the City Airport. Several times recently, in the dead of night some loud twin engine plane flies low right over my neighborhood. Someone said it is FedEx, if not it is some other corporate plane, not small. It goes on and on in spite of all the claims to be trying to control the noise and danger problem. Recent rezoning has already begun to erode property values in our area of Lower Valley Rd./Willow Glen. Airport expansion that would create more noise, etc. will further destroy it.
