March 5, 2010 Dear Council members, It has been brought to my attention that there is a group called 'Quiet Skies' who are actively pursuing the close of the Kalispell City Airport (S27). I hope the time to comment on this action has not passed. As a sometime user of this facility I am 100% opposed to this action. Being within easy walking distance of several businesses makes this an ideal stop whether we are camping in the backcountry and come out to resupply or just as an enroute stop as we cross the country. This is one of the most convenient facilities of its kind anywhere around. My wife and I are both pilots and as such we have often used the airport when in the area in our Cessna 185, each time spending money in restaurants and markets and we have spent the night in your motels on more than one occasion as well. For years it has been our policy to reward towns and businesses that support general aviation with our support in the form of spending our money with them. When that support goes away we usually do too. I know the loss of a few hundred dollars four or five times a year probably won't drive anybody out of business. As a past President of the International 180/185 Club my general aviation contacts number into the hundreds. Most are people who are of a like mind to me when it comes to supporting those who support us. General aviation is always under attack usually by people who hate airplane noise, yet will run their ski boat sans mufflers, or their motorcycles, or their off road trucks all day long with no thought as to what others may think of them. Yes, we know our plane is noisy and we try very hard , within the limits of safety, to minimize the effect it has on the surrounding environment. Please consider these thoughts as I can't in good conscience support your town if it doesn't support the general aviation community. Respectfully, Johnny Miller McCall, ID Placerville, CA
