Box 1997 Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 (406) 758-7718 Fax (406) 758-7719 URBAN FORESTY COMMITTEE Minutes Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 4 - 5 p.m. In attendance: Tree Board Members- Erin Stieber, Judy Rosenfeld Cox, April Vomfell, Martin Rippens, Staff- Fred B, Colter H, Guest- Bette Albright Public Comment: • Mrs. Albright introduced herself and said she would like to join the Urban Forestry Committee again after having stepped away for a few years to serve on the school board. Approve Minutes: • Judy made a motion to approve the July minutes and April seconded. All approved. Current Business: • 50/50 Tree Planting Program- was discussed that the City has advertised the program twice looking for a contractor to assist and has come up with no bids both times. Erin gave a couple recommendations of possible contractors. Fred B will follow up. • Current Contract Pruning Work- a contractor is currently working on a 235-tree pruning contract primarily located on the East Streets, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 9th. Fred also mentioned that the forestry staff had been working on putting together a 40-tree removal contract for this winter. • Arbor Day Preplanning o Location- The group discussed locations, and everyone seemed in favor of hosting again at woodland park. o Theme- Fred said he would send the tree boards running list of theme ideas and hopefully we can decide sooner than later. o April 28th was noted as the date for Arbor Day 2023 • Arborist Update – Colter- Replaced 15 red oaks that were not doing so hot around town with trees acquired from the City of Missoula gravel bed nursery through a grant. Colter noted that the forestry staff were currently pruning on 3rd St W and hoped to have wrapped up fairly soon. Cc: City Clerk
