STREET TREE BOARD
MINUTES
Wednesday, May 12, 2021, 4 - 5 p.m.
Public Comment:
Jim introduced himself. He participated in the tree-planting event over the weekend and
came to check out the tree board. He has a mission to plant trees.
Approve Minutes:
Martin made a motion to approve the April Minutes as presented, Judy seconded, motion carried.
Current Business:
Arbor Day 2021 Recap
Members discussed Arbor Day. All in all members felt it went well for having to do
virtually this year. They were happy that Senator Tester prepared a video ahead of time for
the event. Smokey was a hit. Members noted that this year was much easier than past years
but look forward to meeting in person next year. Board asked that a survey be sent out to
teachers to gather there thoughts.
May 8th Community Tree Planting
Members discussed the event. Everyone thought it was a great event and that it was well
organized.
Cost Share Trees
Fred said that 19 cost share trees have been planted this spring and that we have 33 more
available.
Red Oak Review
Fred provided a list of roughly 50 oak trees that have been planted in Kalispell in the past
five years. Tony and Martin will do an elevation of those trees in the next month or two to
see how they are doing.
Arborist Update
Colter discussed that the crew has recently completed tree planting for the spring and will be
moving back over to 4th Ave E to continue pruning efforts.
Work Plan
Fred handed out the Tree Board’s work plan from 2019 and asked members to
consider developing a new one as the board is nearly at full capacity and things are
moving forward. He will send invites for work plan ideas via email over the next
month.
