A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE KALISPELL CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD AT 7:00
P.M. MONDAY, APRIL 23, 2001, IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS AT CITY HALL
IN KALISPELL, MONTANA. MAYOR WILLIAM E. BOHARSKI PRESIDED. COUNCIL
MEMBERS DON COUNSELL, DALE HAARR, RANDY KENYON, DUANE LARSON, FRED
LEISTIKO, DOUG SCARFF, RON VAN NATTA AND CITY MANAGER CHRIS
KUKULSKI AND CITY ATTORNEY GLEN NEIER WERE PRESENT. COUNCIL MEMBER
JIM ATKINSON WAS ABSENT.
Mayor Boharski called the meeting to order.
AGENDA APPROVAL
Haarr moved approval of the Agenda. The motion was seconded by
Scarff. .
There was no discussion.
The motion carried unanimously upon vote.
UNION CONTRACT RATIFICATION - INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL UNION NO. 547
Larson moved the Council ratify the contract between the City of
Kalispell and the International Association of Firefighters Local
Union No. 547. The motion was seconded by Scarff.
There was discussion.
Kukulski explained the contract is for only one year in order to
allow the new fire chief time to become acclimated and to try to
resolve some issues concerning "call backs". He said the contract
before the Council consists of four basic changes:
1) The base wage increase to the City is 3.3%,.
2) The "call back" rate will increase to $39.50, compared
with the $38.00 the firefighters receive now.
3) The City has agreed to purchase "replacement radios" and
provide new hires with radios.
4) The Fire Training Officer will receive $185.00 per month,
compared with $50.00 he receives now.
Kukulski stated the total amount of "new money" in this contract
amounts to $42,382.84.
The motion carried unanimously upon roll call vote.
