Minutes from October 13, 1999 Meeting
The meeting began at 4: 0o p.m. Present were: P. J. Sorensen and Kathy Kuhlin (staff), Gib Bissell,
Fred Leistiko, Keith Robinson, and Art Thompson.
The City Council will review and discuss airport issues on Monday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the
work session.
Runway overlay is just about completed. The overlay needed to be done, as the asphalt is old. This
project was budgeted for three years ago, and this is a good deal on asphalt and labor. Mike
Ferguson will check to see if the State will do the stripping.
Regarding Airport Advisory Board Member appointments - Mayor Boharski's letter to the City
Council was distributed and discussed.
Future management of the airport was discussed. Art explained how the Solid Waste Board used a
non-professional manager and it became "a mess". They got a professional manager and he turned
it around in less than a year. The board was unanimous that it is vitally important that we get a
professional manager, and not a department head or FB 0 to manage the airport.
Art reminded us of the three Land Acquisition Consultants that the City could contact for assistance
regarding acquiring more land.
John Stokes and the radio tower issues were discussed. Perhaps the City could write a preliminary
letter to the FAA with .an explanation that the tower issue is close to being solved.
Art will E-mail Conrad Burns to renew our previous discussion with he and his staff' and their
suggestions.
P.J. explained that the tower issue is going before the City --County Planning Board next month, and
then goes to the commissioners.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 : 20 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at 4:00 p.mV
