Minutes from June 23, 1999 Meeting
The meeting began at 4:00 p.m. Present were: Mike Baker, Chris Kukulski, P. J. Sorensen, and
Kathy Kuhlin (staff), 'rib Bissell, Fred Leistiko, Mike Manion, Keith Robinson, Art Thompson, and
Torn weaver.
The letter (regarding commercial airline service to the Flathead Valley) to Mayor Boharski from
Senator Max Baucus was discussed. Art Thompson will contact Tire Orthmeyer regarding general
aviation airports. Mike Larkin has contacted Kathy to let her know he will be withdrawing from the
Airport Advisory Board and will be submitting a letter to the Mayor in this regard.
Surreys were distributed to Kalispell City Airport participants. $60,000 approximately spent in the
valley during the air show. The survey was designed by Greg Davi s from F . V . C . C . Gib and Art will
contact Greg Davis, and perhaps F N . C . C . may do the study. The F.A.A. cannot fund this, and the
A. O . P . A. has a policy against economic studies. The State may have grant money, but it must be
snatched by the City. It could cost between $8,000 and $16,000 for the study. If our guys did part
of it along with Greg Davis, it could be accomplished. He will do a letter without x contract. If the
airport is approved, Greg has ideas on how to figure out the impact on an unproved airport. Art
thought Morrison-Maierle might have $2,00043,000 for the study. Toni weaver and Gib will call
Terry and ask him if Morrison-Maierle will provide $5,000 and then we could subcontracts the study
through Morrison-Maierle. Both FBO's are distributing the survey, with 70 returns in 12 days;
$611,000 non -aviation money was spent. will run survey for three months and compare to past fly -ins.
Senator Burns and Greg Routan (who flew the Challenger around the world) had both completed
the survey.
The one million to go to the airport from the City was discussed as to where the money is coming
from. The tower problem needs to be dealt with. Aviation trust fund money must be spent for
aviation purposes only. F.A:A. funds are available. R J. discussed the R.osauer's drainage ditch. It
will delete revenue for tie dawns. Improvements on Highway 93 will take away the drainage ditch.
Drainage will be addressed by. Morrisony-Maierle. There is some concern about City property being
sold to another FBG with fence access and apron because there were no offers on the property. This
was discussed.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 :00 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be Wednesday, July 14, 1999 at 4:00 p.m.
