06-10-98 Airport MinutesCity of Kalispell Minutes from June 10, 1998 Meeting The meeting began at 4:00 p.m. Present were: Mike Baker, Gib Bissell, Fred Leistiko, Tom Reynolds, Keith Robinson, and Art Thompson. Gib had spoken with Tire orthmeyer earlier this day, and updated everyone on the Master Plan. The radio expert from Denver has been to Kalispell. His report should be done in a week. The held inventory is done, which is an account of planes, traffic buildings, and other airport related items. Morrison-Maierle are preparing a questionnaire to mail to all pilots and airport users. They should have all the necessary drawings done by the end of June. Phase I of the Master Plan should be done by August. The FAA has approved the grant money and it has been allocated. Discussion was held regarding the importance of having a good flow of information between the City, the FAA, and Morrison-Maierle during the next several months while the Master Plan is being developed. It's important that the FAA and Morrison-Maierle have a good contact person at the City who is knowledgeable regarding the airport. The Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VAST) lights, which were picked up by Jerry Burden and the Civil Air Patrol, are at Diamond Aire. Fred Leistiko, Mike Jackola from Jackola Engineering, and Jim Lynch are working with the FAA and the State on the installation of the VASI lights. Gib gave an update on the Fly -In. Guest speakers for the Fly -In will be a NASA. Astronaut who was a physician on the space shuttle and victor Balenko who defected from Russia via a MIG Fighter into Japan. There will be a barbeque Friday, June 17 at Lion's Park with hot air balloons and parachuters. Saturday night there will be a banquet at the outlaw Inn. During all three days there will be fly-bys of military and antique airplanes. There will be antique cars and airplanes on display at the airport. Gib spoke with interim Police Chief Frank garner and Sheriff Jim Dupont, and he will speak with Fire Chief Ted Waggener and Alan Marble, Emergency Service Coordinator with Flathead County, to review an emergency response plan for the Fly -In.
