SUBJECT: Chip Seal Project for Year Ending December 31, 2018
MEETING: March 19, 2018
BACKGROUND: Each year the City of Kalispell performs pavement maintenance in the form of
chip sealing to extend the service life of existing paved streets. Chip seal pavement maintenance
for the year of 2018 will consist of chip sealing approximately 5 miles of City streets.
Bids were received on Thursday March 8, 2017 at 2:30 PM. One responsive bid was received
from local contractors:

References for Pavement Maintenance Solutions were contacted and interviewed. Pavement
Maintenance Solutions was determined to be a responsive and responsible contractor successfully
completing similar projects in Northwest Montana.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Award the bid for the Chip Seal Project for Year Ending
December 31, 2018 to Pavement Maintenance Solutions.
ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to award the Chip Seal Project for Year Ending December 31,
2018 to Pavement Maintenance Solutions with the execution of the total amount bid for
$176,451.50.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The total project construction cost will be funded in parts ($141,005) by the
Gas Tax Fund Overlay/Chip Seal Fund (2420-421-430240-368) and ($35,447) by the new Bridge
and Road Allocation funds. The required 5% match ($1,772) for the new Bridge and Road
Allocation funds will come from the Pavement Maintenance Fund (2500-421-430244-354).
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested and approved by the City Council.
