I3. 2018 Preliminary BudgetCity of Kalispell Post Office Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana 59903-1997 Telephone (406) 758-7000 Fax - (406) 758-7758 MONTANA REPORT TO: Doug Russell, City Manager FROM: Rick Wills, Finance Director SUBJECT: 2018 Preliminary Budget MEETING DATE: June 19, 2017 BACKGROUND: The process of budget setting and approval requires the preparation and publication of a preliminary budget for consideration by the council and the public. The preliminary budget has now been produced by city staff, presented to the council, and published on the website. The council discussed the preliminary budget at the May 8 and 10, 2017 work sessions. Staff is requesting the council call for a public hearing and approve the expenditure of funds within the 2018 preliminary budget for salaries, maintenance, operation, and projects until the final budget is adopted. RECOMMENDATION: Council make a motion to authorize the expenditure of funds from the FY2018 preliminary budget necessary for day-to-day operations of the city and schedule a public hearing for July 3. ATTACHMENT: Notice of Budget Hearing NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING Notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Kalispell has reviewed the Preliminary Budget for the 2018 fiscal year and said budget is open to inspection in the Finance Office and on the City's website at www.kalispell.com. The City Council will meet on Monday, July 3, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall to conduct a formal Budget Hearing and transact regular business. Anyone may appear to express concerns regarding the budget. The hearing may be continued from day to day as required. On August 21, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, the City Council will meet to adopt the final budget and fix tax levies.
