Many kids received a call from Santa and it sure gets the community in the Christmas spirit. Kukulski, City Manager Monthly Activity Report for James Hansz, Public Works January 14, 2002 Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works Department for the month of December 2001 are as follows: ENGINEERING DIVISION ➢ Initiated biweekly meetings of Citizen Advisory Committee for Streetscape design. ➢ Finalized details of energy conservation program for water and wastewater facilities with BPA and their contractor BacGen. ➢ Participated in an orientation session for new Mayor and members of the City Council. ➢ Met with KCFW to discuss City snow policies. ➢ Met with County Commissioners to review ROW issues along fairgrounds in connection with Meridian Road project. ➢ Initiated a review of December 96 annexation plan for Greenacres to update data within. ➢ Met in Helena with Director of MDEQ, her assistant, and Governor's assistant for environmental matters to discuss the adverse impacts of the proposed Flathead TMDL. ➢ Attended a meeting of the Flathead Basin Commission where a revised Flathead TMDL was presented that addressed our concerns and has provided breathing room for the next few years while additional needed study is completed. ➢ Met with HDR and Morrison Maierle regarding remaining sections of the Facility Plan. ➢ Continued with incident command training. ➢ Completed Annual Fuel Tax Report. Three additional miles of streets added to Kalispell's system in 2001. ➢ Completed City Special Assessments for 2001. ➢ Administered contract to demolish the former Alanon and Parking Commission buildings. The buildings were demolished the week of December 3ra ➢ Updated and produced City Planning and Boundary maps and organizational charts as requested for various departments and City planning functions. ➢ Updated various engineering software. ➢ Began AutoCAD updates of this past year's utility surveys. ➢ Processed static control shots to establish coordinates for Public Works base GPS point. ➢ Finished drawing of Woodland Avenue water main extension for MDT. ➢ Responded to miscellaneous right-of-way questions. ➢ Began research on right-of-way expansion north of City Shops for pedestrian safety. ➢ Began computer updates for as-built/record drawing files. OFFICE AND STAFF There were 7 emergency call -outs for the month of December: ■ Water Division - 1 ■ Sewer Division - 2 • TSS Division - 0 ■ Street Division - 4 • WWTP - 0 ■ Total - 7 CENTRAL GARAGE 89 repair orders were completed during the month of December: ■ Police - 15 • Streets - 23 Fire - 10 • Garbage - 11 • Others — 30 Total - 89 ➢ Continued regular maintenance of City vehicles and machinery. ➢ Responded to numerous road calls. ➢ Replaced air dryer on the Water Division's tandem. ➢ Replaced hydraulic valve and shift air accumulator on garbage truck. ➢ Fabricated and installed new oil fill tube in engine of Sun Vac ice melt truck. ➢ Installed Opticom system on Fire Department's truck and removed Opticom system from the ambulance. ➢ Replaced engine heater on the plow truck. ➢ Repaired throttle linkage on garbage truck. ➢ Repaired lift cylinder on the Street Division's loader. ➢ Replaced broken hydraulic fitting and engine fuel pump on the Parks' chipper. ➢ Replaced the hydraulic pump on the Street Division's roller. ➢ Tightened pump packing and resealed suction fitting on the Fire Department's truck. SANITARYISTORMSEWER DIVISON ➢ Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday. ➢ Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday. SOLID WASTE DIVISION ➢ Delivered 10 containers to new customers: 1-90 gallon, 8 -100 gallon, 1 -400 gallon, 0 -300 gallon. ➢ Repaired 5 containers and responded to 5 violations. ➢ Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup. STREET DIVISION ➢ General sweeping and maintenance of City streets and alleys. ➢ General winter operations — deicing of City streets and alleys. ➢ Put parking bumpers on the newly paved Methodist parking lot. ➢ Hauled pit run to the Keno Inn site. ➢ Made repairs to the sink hole at the W WTP for the Fire Department pumping station. ➢ Continued to de-ice emergency and secondary routes. ➢ During the week of 12/10/O1 rebuilt walls at the shop. WATER DIVISION WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE: ➢ Produced 68 M gallons of water: 14 M gallons upper zone and 54 M gallons lower zone. ➢ Injected 253 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine residual of 0.35 PPM throughout the system. ➢ Continued daily monitoring of all pump stations and routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, analyzers, grounds, buildings, controls, testing, water sampling, and record keeping. ➢ Installed outside security light at the Armory Well. ➢ Took VOL water samples. ➢ Installed work lights on the new water truck. ➢ Located power poles at Noffsinger Springs and submitted proposal for security lights at Noffsinger Spring pump station and spring house. ➢ Ordered supplies for chlorine analyzer and two new pocket chlorimeters. ➢ Repaired leaks, primed pumps and replaced fittings on check valves for chlorine equipment. ➢ Continued increased surveillance on pump stations and changed combination locks. ➢ Worked on annual report for water testing and data needed for the Consumer Confidence Report. ➢ Prepared estimate of annual cost to test water for the Public Works Administration office. WATER CONSTRUCTIONAND SYSTEM REPAIR: ➢ Tagged 81 delinquent accounts on the West Side of Kalispell. ➢ Completed 49 work orders during the month December. ➢ Continue to service meters. ➢ Repaired service line at 266 4"' Avenue EN. ➢ Painted the break room in the Water Warehouse. TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS DIVISON ➢ Continued regular maintenance of signals, signs, luminaires, barricades, sight obstructions, and Airport lighting. ➢ Did more signage to help with parking problems on Conway by the emergency room. ➢ Removed the Lakeside banner. ➢ Pruned trees obstructing stop signs. ➢ Checked City Airport runway lights and wind sox lights. ➢ Replaced numerous signs that were knocked down due to traffic accidents and replaced faded "Stop" signs. ➢ Received new line locator. ➢ Measured yellow curbing in the downtown area at all intersections for Streetscape. ➢ Hooked power up to the new parking ticket machine in the Valley Bank Parking lot for the Parking Commission. ➢ Put up knocked over "Road Ends" sign on Four Mile Drive. WASTEWATER TREATMENT DIVISION ➢ 178 Work orders were completed during the month of December. ➢ 468 Lab tests were performed during the month of December. ➢ 18 Loads of sludge were hauled during December. ➢ 93,854 pounds of bio-solids were pressed. ➢ November Discharge Report: No violations. The average daily now was 2.261 million gallons.
