MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Johnson and City Council
From: Doug Russell, City Manager
Re: Law Enforcement/Grant Update
Meeting Date: November 14, 2016
of Kalispell
Box 1997 - Kalispell, Montana
(406) 758-7701 Fax: (406) 758-7758
BACKGROUND: During the budget adoption process, Council included two law enforcement
positions that would be funded from the COPS (community oriented policing services) Hiring
Program. We have been informed that our two requested positions have not been selected for
grant funding. At the work session on Monday night, we will review what our options are for
these positions and the respective grant program. We will also update council on recent trends in
law enforcement within the community of Kalispell.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council review the information and
provide staff direction.
