Box 1997, Kalispell, Montana 59903 (406) 758-7756 ci , clerk&kalispell.com www.kalispell.com FROM: Aimee Brunckhorst, CMC, City Clerk & Communications Manager MEETING DATE: June 20, 2016 SUBJECT: Appointment to the Flathead County Solid Waste District Board BACKGROUND: The Flathead County Solid Waste District Board has one position for a city of Kalispell representative on the seven member board. Until his recent resignation, the city representative was Hank Olson who kept his position on the board after his term on the City Council ended. The Flathead County Solid Waste Board meets at 3 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of every month, in the County landfill office. The mission statement of the Flathead County Solid Waste District is to provide environmentally sound and cost-effective refuse collection, disposal and recycling opportunities for Flathead County residents and businesses. The City of Kalispell utilizes the Flathead County Solid Waste facilities for the disposal of its solid waste and its long term sustainability is therefore vital to the citizens of Kalispell. Long range planning and fiscal integrity ensures decades of capacity to the benefit of all Flathead County residents. RECOMMENDATION: Council makes a motion to recommend a Council member or the Mayor for appointment by the County Commission to the Flathead County Solid Waste District Board.
