BACKGROUND:
Each year the City of Kalispell performs pavement maintenance in the form of chip sealing to
extend the service life of existing paved streets. Chip seal pavement maintenance for the year of
2016 will consist of chip sealing approximately 1.25 miles of City streets. Bids were received,
April 21, 2016, from two contractors: Pavement Maintenance Solutions, Inc. from Columbia
Falls, Montana, and Knife River of Kalispell, Montana. The Bid results are as follows:
Contractor Total Bid Price
Pavement Maintenance Solutions $98,508.42
Knife River $107,417.85
Engineer's Estimate $88,800.18
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Award the bid for the Chip Seal Project for the year ending
December 31, 2016, to Pavement Maintenance Solutions, Inc. in the amount equal to the sum of
Bid Schedule No. 1 and Bid Schedule No. 2 for a total of $98,508.42.
ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to award the Chip Seal Project for the Year Ending December
31, 2016, to Pavement Maintenance Solutions, Inc. with the execution of Bid Schedule No. 1 and
Bid Schedule No. 2.
FISCAL EFFECTS: Potential expenditure of $105,562.00 from the Gas Tax Fund (2420-421-
430240-368 Overlay/Chip Seal).
ALTERNATIVES: As suggested and approved by the City Council.
