Organization(s) of which you are currently a board member:
Bethlehem Lutheran Church Council and Youth Committee
Why are you interested in serving this board, committee, or commission:
I have had an interest in urban forestry since a child. I love tree -lined streets and wish to
keep Kalispell's boulevard trees healthy and diverse. Growing up in Minneapolis in the
1970s, I saw our entire neighborhood lose 90% of its shade trees to Dutch Elm disease,
and it really changed the face of the area. I want to see a diverse mix of shade trees in
Kalispell so that disease cannot wipe out entire avenues as is currently happening.
Detail any education, knowledge, or experience you have which would be beneficial to this board, committee
or commission:
I have a BS in forest hydrology from the University of Minnesota. That degree required
dozens of credit hours in silviculture, forestry and dendrology, so I have a basic
background in management of hardwoods and conifers. I have also worked in DNRCs
forest management program on school trust lands in northwest montana for over 21
years, so I am familiar our soil types, climate and ecosystems.

Current Occupation: Retired Civil Engineer

Organization(s) of which you arc currently a board member:
Kalispell Sunriser Lions Club
Why are you interested in serving this board, committee, or commission:
I have an interest in the preservation and expansion of the Kalispell urban forest. The
loss of hundreds of elm trees within the City's original townsite is extremely disappointing
and has resulted in a degregation of the character of the historical residential
neighborhood. I would like to help prioritize tree species selection and a replacement
program that reestablishes the street trees the community has lost, maintain the
remaining trees and prioritize planting in the original townsite.
Detail any education, knowledge, or experience you have which would be beneficial to this board, committee
or commission:
As a professional engineer involved in land development for over 40 years in Kalispell,
Flathead County, the State of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region, I worked with
many landscape architects, public agencies and private individuals selecting trees for
site developments and streetscapes. Through this experience I have gained a solid
understanding of what trees can thrive in nothern climates and why diversity is so
important to maintaining healthy urban green spaces. Additionally I own priate timber
land where I practice sustainable timber management.
