Highlights of monthly activity for the operating divisions of the Public Works
Department for the month of June 2001 are as follows:
ENGINEERING DIVISION
0 Met with representative of BPA to outline a program for energy auditing on PWD plant
operations. Assisted during initial facility inspection effort.
0 Received and opened bids for Clarifier Rehabilitation Project. Recommended award to F.D
Thomas.
0 Conducted monthly project review meeting with consultants performing the Utility Facility
Planning Study.
0 Conducted weekly project status meetings with engineers performing the Facility Planning
Study.
0 Contractor began work on SID 343 Sunny View Lane.
0 Continued to work with consultant to resolve technical questions for Streetscape Project.
MDT traffic engineering has concurred with our current proposal.
0 Presented PWD budget to City Council on July 1.
0 Attend weekly construction project meetings on Sunny View SID Project.
0 Continued review of T&C Plaza improvement plans. Met with engineers to resolve technical
issues.
0 Continued review of Stratford Village Subdivision plans and meet with Engineer to discuss
changes.
0 Review Southfield Park Development plans.
0 Participated in MDT consultant selection panel for design of MACI Sidewalk Project in NW
Kalispell.
0 Contractor began work on Water Meter Replacement Project.
0 Continued project with Fire Department to develop a permanent test site for flow testing of
fire engine pumping apparatus.
0 Contractor continued Sidewalk Replacement Project.
0 Paved Appleway Drive as part of 2001 Overlay Project.
0 Met with City Attorney to obtain resolution of persistent heavy metal inflow problem at Joe's
Radiator Shop.
0 Continued to seek resolution of dumping at old gravel pit on Grandview Drive.
ENGINEERING DIVISION continued...
0 Completed KYAC lease perimeter survey for the Parks Department. Effort included drawing
ant plotting a preliminary subdivision plat for FRDO (review purposes) and drawing, plotting
and filing a COS with Flathead County.
0 Conducted 2001 utility update field surveys in the following areas: Lee's Business Park,
Albertson's, City Shops, Woodland Park, Lawrence Park pump house.
0 Responded to miscellaneous right-of-way questions.

0 Replaced alternator and front brakes on Parks' vehicle.
0 Replaced water pump in water pickup.
0 Replaced gutter brooms and hopper shield on the Elgin Sweeper.
0 Replaced cutting blades on the Parks' mower.
0 Replaced pickup head assembly and main broom on the Elgin Sweeper.
CENTRAL GARAGE continued...
0 Replaced the elevator chains and scrapers and replaced worn metal shields on the Tenant
Sweeper.
0 Replaced coolant temperature sender and sensor, replaced hydraulic control valve and body
up cable on Garbage truck.
0 Replaced water valve, solenoid, and a joints on the Elgin Sweeper.
SANITARY/STORM SEWER DIVISON
0 Continued video and jet cleaning of sewer lines Monday through Thursday.
0 Performed weekly maintenance of sixteen lift stations each Friday.
SOLID WASTE DIVISION
0 Delivered 17 containers to new customers: 1 —90 gallon, 12 -100 gallon, 1 -400 gallon,
3 -300 gallon.
0 Repaired 7 containers and responded to 7 violations.
0 Continued weekly garbage service and alley cleanup.
STREET DIVISION
0 General sweeping and maintenance of City Streets and alleys.
0 Chipped branches in alley.
0 Various cold mix patching and crack sealing.
0 Prepped valve boxes and manholes for patching.
0 Assisted the Water Division with hydrant and service lines.
0 Utility cut at 1" Avenue East and 7th Avenue East.
Prepped and patched cut outs at Begg Park Drive.
Prepped and patched cut outs at 1" Avenue West & 18`h Street, 2"a Street East.
Cut outs on College Avenue.
WATER DIVISION
WATER PRODUCTION & STORAGE:
0 Produced 114 M gallons of water: 31 M gallons upper zone and 83 M gallons lower zone.
0 Injected 259 gallons of sodium hypochlorite, 12% solution to maintain an average chlorine
residual of 0.25 PPM throughout the system.
0 Continued routine maintenance on all pumps, motors, chlorination equipment, grounds,
buildings, controls, testing, and record keeping.
0 Trouble shoot and diagnosed faulty radio repeater and ground storage tank water level
transducer.
0 Installed piping and electrical controls for chlorine analyzer at Noffsinger Springs.
0 Installed irrigation system and PVB backflow preventor at Noffsinger Springs.
0 Conducted hydrant flow test, gathered technical data for motors for study by BPA.
0 Completed electrical hookups for irrigation timer at Noffsinger Spring.
