6. Updates from City Parking:
Unfinished Business:
Janet expressed concern that longtime downtown employees are still unaware of free parking offered in
the Skyline Lot. Mark suggested that Pam Carbonari should send out some type of public notice. Captain
Rademacher stated that the Skyline Lot may be impacted if the Parking District is approved. Part of the
Proposal that the City is working on would require Elrod School utilizing part of their current playground
for parking. A large portion of the playground is paved. This could provide approximately 35-40
additional parking spaces. Flathead High School would add approximately 20-25 additional spaces.
Another possible option would require some of the Elrod staff having to park in the Skyline Lot.
7. New Business:
Janet had a couple of ideas to potentially gain some additional downtown parking. There is a dirt lot
behind Flathead Fitness by the thrift store. Janet suggested that the city should approach them to see if
they would be interested in selling. She is thinking with the Toggery moving in downtown, it would be a
great time for the addition of more parking. Her second suggestion involved the parking lot that belongs
to the Special Friends Advocacy on 2nd Avenue West. It is a paved lot that is currently being used to park
one large vehicle. Janet suggested the possibility of selling permits and monitoring the lot. This could
potentially generate some additional income for them. Bill Goodman (KM Building) has had potential
tenants back out due to the lack of parking available. She thinks that this lot would be a convenient
option for tenants in KM Building. Janet will speak with Bill Goodman to see what he thinks about
approaching the Special Friends Advocacy organization.
The next meeting will be Thursday, January 22, 2015.
