Rabid Bat 5-26-15 Press Release from Police Dept.312 1, Av-& Earl — PO 13o-w 19 9 7 — Ka-L4pel,L, MT 59 903 TeLW, - .ems (406) 758 —7780 — Fax (406) 758 —7799 Striving to Exceed Expectations' Press Release 5-26-15 On May 201", 2015 a citizen called into the Kalispell Police Department stating they had a bat on their front porch near 91" Street and 2nd Avenue West. Due to possible exposure to a domestic animal, the bat was sent to the Montana Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory for rabies testing. The bat tested positive for rabies. This serves as a reminder for everyone to get their animals vaccinated for rabies and keep them up to date. While most bats like to fly around in the evening and at night catching bugs, a bat that acts lethargic and is out in the middle of the day is not normal. If you come across a bat, do not handle it and keep all of your pets away from the bat. Rabies is a deadly disease that can affect humans and animals. If you have concerns please contact your local police department, or the City -County Health Department.
