AGENDA ITEM 9 - RESOLUTION-CDBG GRANT APPLICATION -SAMARITAN HOUSE
EXPANSION
BACKGROUND/CONSIDERATION: This resolution authorizes the submission
of a CDBG Grant Application. If the grant is approved, it will
provide financing required for a $2,110,540 expansion to create 22
transitional single rooms, remodel and rehab the existing building
into 23 units of transitional and very low income rentals, ADA
compliance, and upgrade to current life/safety standards. The
City's responsibility is for administration of a 1997 CDBG Grant
for $400,000 (if approved), a $40,000 Home Grant (if approved), and
a potential $400,000 1998 CDBG Grant (if approved). Our monetary
commitment for this grant application is $100,000.
RECOMMENDATION: Grant applications are a leveraging of local
investments, both private and City funds. The Samaritan House
provides an essential need/benefit that is growing in demand. I
recommend approval of this resolution for submittal of the grant
