15. MDOT Response on Traffic StudyAgenda -January 27, 1997 AGENDA ITEM 15 - MDOT RESPONSE ON TRAFFIC STUDY -REQUEST FOR MEETING BACKGROUND/CONSIDERATION: I have enclosed a January 8, 1997 letter from MDOT in reference to U.S. Highway 93 North of Kalispell. As indicated, this policy requires a meeting with the Council and law enforcement representatives to review their procedures. You may or may not desire to do this and you have the right to waive the meeting. However, I will need to give them written notification to waive the meeting. RECOMMENDATION: The information may be helpful if you are not familiar with traffic study processes. The meeting may also be beneficial in terms of giving MDOT your specific input prior to their study. I would recommend we spend the time for this meeting,. especially since we are requesting the investigation. ACTION REQUIRED: Consensus for direction to the manager is needed. This item will not be on the Council Meeting Agenda. Montana Department 2701 Prospect Avenue -- = -= of Transportation PO Sox 201001 -- Helena /MT 59620-1001 January 8, 1997 City of Kalispell P.O. Box 1997 Kalispell, MT 59903-1997 Subject: Traffic Investigation US-93 North of Kalispell Marc Racicot, Governor The Missoula District Office has forwarded your traffic investigation request to our office. We will gladly add this to our docket. Before a study can be done, an informational meeting must be held. The purpose of this meeting is to explain our speed zoning methodology when establishing a realistic speed zone. It is our policy to meet with the local governing agency prior to performing an investigation. This typically includes the City Council and all concerned law enforcement officers. The meeting usually lasts between forty-five minutes to one hour, depending on the number of questions. We realize that some Council members may have attended similar meetings in the past, and you have the right to waive another meeting. However, we do suggest that if there has been a significant change in Council members another meeting would be beneficial. Members of the local law enforcement agencies involved should also be invited to the meeting. If you do not wish to hold another meeting, we will need your written notification before we are able to proceed with a traffic investigation. If your office would like to schedule a meeting, please contact Doug Bailey at 444-6220. Donald P. Dusek, P.E. Traffic Engineer DPD:AEE:TRF;kal cc: Carl S.
