BACKGROUND/CONSIDERATION: This is the item that Council Member
Atkinson meant to discuss at the work session. This is of general
community importance, especially for our younger citizens.
RECOMMENDATION: I would recommend approval of a resolution that is
encouraging people to participate in the voting procedure without
suggesting how to vote.
ACTION REQUIRED: Approval of RESOLUTION 4296.

RESOLUTION TO ENCOURAGE VOTER1•• •REGARDING
THE BOND ISSUE ON 1 APPLIED TECHNOLOGY AND LEARNING
VONTER
WHEREAS, the current and projected overcrowding of the
communities' high schools presents a significant educational problem,
and
WHEREAS,. it is estimated that 80% percent of jobs in the
Flathead in the year 2000 will require more than a high school
diploma but less than a four-year college degree, and
WHEREAS, the proposed Applied Technology and Learning
Center on the campus of Flathead Valley Community College can
address the need for expanded technical curriculum for less than
4.0% of the cost of a new high school, and
WHEREAS, community cooperation can help solve communities'
problems,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the cities and the county
encourage eligible voters in Flathead County to inform themselves on
all facets of the bond election on the November 5, 1996, ballot so that
a representative vote may be cast.
