Kennedy Ward IV Park's Department received it's new 10' swath Toro tractor this month. Otherwise, M. Duane Larson January comprised of Christmas Tree chipping, several ice rink floodings and several Ward IV snow removals from the rink and sidewalks. We also painted the Warming House inside, for the second time this year (due to vandals and their graffiti). January was a busy and challenging month for the recreation department. Weather provided ice for our skating programs and snow for the Seniors to enjoy their cross- country ski outings. Those who didn't venture out learned to sew, cook and dance; or played basketball on the Men's City Basketball League. "Jump Rope for Heart" raised $5,3000.00 from 115 participants. Even though we experienced some frigid weather, our programs were operated with plenty of participants. Baseball Complex: Postured for council review in February. Lawrence Park Rest Room: New rest room for the multipurpose area of Lawrence Park is designed by Architect Mark Johnson, and bid book to be completed mid - February. Lawrence Park Pavilion: Construction is in the final stage. Railing is the final item. No major commercial work started in January. Although new permits weren't plentiful there is an abundant number of projects underway in and around Kalispell. The Board of Adjustment heard one variance request in January. Equity Supply was granted a variance to expand its nonconforming building at 150 1st Avenue W.N. A convenience store with gasoline sales is planned for the northerly portion of the Equity site. In February, Equity will request a variance to expand their nonconforming feed store building on 2nd Avenue W.N. No other applications have been received for the February meeting. Two sign permits for a total of three signs were issued in January. The Zoning Administrator and PECDD Director finished their airport area plan in January and forwarded the plan to the City Manager. Personnel: Applicants for the certified plans examiner position were interviewed and a candidate was selected. He is scheduled to be here in March. Construction was in Ashley Park, Belmar, Greenbriar, Creekside and Meadow Park. A foundation permit was issued for the Hampton Inn on Highway 2 West. The remainder of the 26 permits were for additions, remodels, etc. Zonin : The City of Board of Adjustment met on Tuesday, December 5th to consider two variance requests. Both were approved. The first, by Edna Morton, will allow a small awning/porch covering to encroach into a side corner setback on property located at 605 5th Avenue East. The second request, by Montana Environmental Labs, will allow the expansion of a nonconforming building at 376 W. Washington. } The zoning administrator attended a Regional Growth Management Workshop sponsored by MSU Extension Service in Bozeman. The purpose of the 2 day session was to identify growth management issues and interests and to discuss the possibility of scheduling a regional conference. It was decided that, budgets being what they are and the diversity of interests relative to growth management, that everyone would be better served by having Extension develop a series of growth related educational programs. Stake Center. --- Saw completion of Second Wind, Wal Mart, Dollar Store, N.W. Tire, North Country Auto Marine, Westwind Apartments, and many of the projects started in 1.995. --- Lost its bid to hire an electrical inspector and bring all building codes enforcement, including electrical codes, together in one place.
