AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 27.26.050(22), CITY OF KALISPELL
ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 1175.
NOW, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
KALISPELL AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That Section 27.26.050(22), City of Kalispell
Zoning Ordinance No. 1175 is hereby amended to read as
follows:
"Grocery and supermarkets: 1 space per 250 square
feet of gross floor area."
SECTION II. This Ordinance shall become effective thirty
(30) days from and after the date of its final passage by
the City Council and approval by the Mayor.

The Kalispell City -County Planning Board and Zoning Commission met in regular session on
Tuesday, September 12, 1995, and held a public hearing to amend the following Sections of the
Kalispell Zoning Ordinance:
Parking, Section 27.26.050(22), which currently requires: "one (1) parking space for
every 100 square feet of gross floor area of customer sales and service, plus one space
per 200 square feet of gross floor area of storage and office. "; and
Cluster Development, Section 27.35.030(l), which currently requires a: "Minimum area
of the development shall be not less than two acres. In the Redevelopment Area,
minimum area of the development shall be not less than 21,300 square feet." .
John Parsons, of FRDO presented the staff report, which recommended the Text be amended
as follows:
Chapter 27.26 Off Street Parking.
Section 27.26.050(22). Grocery and supermarkets: 1 space per 250 square feet of
gross floor area.
Chapter 27.35 Cluster Developments - Dwellings.
Section 27.35.030(1). Minimum area of the development shall be not less than
21,000 square feet.
There was no testimony either for or against the request.
The Board voted 7-0 recommending the requested text amendments.
This recommendation for the text amendment is forwarded to the City Council for final action.
Council needs to wait for the minutes of the Planning Board meeting prior to taking final action

Subj: Parking requirements for Grocery Stores and Supermarkets
Since you are considering several options for parking requirements for grocery stores and
supermarkets I thought it would be useful to see what the impact of each proposal would have
the 55,692 square feet Tidymans development. Tidymans has 39,631 square feet of retail area
and 16,061 of storage and office area. Applying the various proposals to this development we
have the following:
Current Code
39,631 r 100 = 396 spaces
16,061 200 = 80 spaces
total:
Staff Proposal of 1 space per 250 Square Feet of Gross Floor Area
55,692 + 250 = 223 spaces,
Councils discussion concerning other retail requirements
first 5,000 square feet = 25 spaces
next 50,692 square feet + 300 = 169 spaces
Total: 194 spaces
Kalispell Parking Requirement for shopping malls l space per 200 square feet for gross floor
area:
55,692 +- 200 = 279 spaces
