The City Council has asked for more information about the cost of various options for
the extension of sewer service along Highway 93 North. Our budget estimate is
Dale Haarr
ward n
$478,000, including engineering costs, to extend the main prior to the reconstruction of
Highway 93.

We have spoken with Terry Richmond of Morrison Maierle Engineers regarding the Ward III
cost of extending the sewer main after, rather than before, the reconstruction of Pamela B. Kennedy
Highway 93. Terry has worked on the highway reconstruction design and understands Ward IV
the details involved with a sewer main extension in this area. Based on that discussion, M. we predict a 15% or $75,000 cost increase if the sewer is extended after highway Ward ly Duane Larson
construction. We should also consider the general inflation of construction costs,
which have increased by 25% over the last 4 or 5 years.
One of the most difficult aspects of extending the sewer after highway construction
would be the installation of mains and service lines that cross the road. If the Council
should choose not to extend the sewer before highway construction, we strongly
recommend that the sewer extension be designed at this time and that the crossings be
coordinated with the highway project. With a plan in hand we could work with the
Highway Department to preserve a corridor for the future sewer main extension.
With respect to the demand for sewer services in the Reserve Drive area, we have a
letter of interest from the Mountain Villa Apartments and recent verbal expressions of
interest from Semi Tool and the golf course development underway on Highway 93
North.
