There were single family starts scattered throughout the other areas of the jurisdiction. Commercial activity is steady with work beginning on Valley Recycling west of Kalispell, and Blimpies and two warehouses south of Kalispell. Construction will likely be underway during June on the Fernwell, the Whitefish Credit Union and the L.D.S. Stake House. With respect to multifamily, work is proceeding on the fourth building in the Courtyard complex. Work is wrapping up on the Westwind Village Apartments on Kalispell's west side. Board of Adjustment The Kalispell Board of Adjustment met on Tuesday, May 2nd, and considered three variance requests. All three requests were granted by the Board. The first request, by Karlene Khor, will allow an addition onto an existing single-family home to encroach seven feet into a ten foot sideyard setback. The Khor home is located at 229 7th Street West. LaPlume Exxon, 335 East Idaho, was granted a variance to enlarge an existing, nonconforming, pump island canopy. The existing structure, located in a required front yard setback, will be extended approximately four feet to the east and west. Flathead Industries was granted a variance from the city's parking requirements for a proposed group home at 217 and 219 4th Avenue West. Because of the fact that FIFTH's clientele, for the most part, are not drivers, the Board saw fit to allow a reduction in off-street parking. A deed restriction on the property will require future owners to meet the off-street parking requirements of the zoning ordinance. Zonin The zoning administrator has begun to receive more zoning violation complaints (primarily land use) as the weather gets better. Page 2 EOM Comments - May, 1995 Personnel The City declined to get involved in an electrical permitting and inspection program. No electrical inspector will be added to the building department staff. The position vacancy for a certified plan checker is posted and will close at Job Service on June 5th, 1995. General Next years budget received initial approval. --C)' - Craig A.
