June 30th, 1994.

There were a total of 39 fire runs, two of which were "General
Alarms", which are fires large enough to call in all off -duty
firefighters. The estimated total fire loss for the second quarter
was $53,450.00. The "General Alarm" fire was a house located at 33
Fifth Avenue West. The fire started in the chimney and then spread
to the attic area. A few hours later we returned to the residence
for a rekindle.
Ambulance Service
Ambulance #1 made 286 responses traveling 3851 miles. Ambulance #2
made 69 responses traveling 1317 miles. Ambulance #3 made 11
responses, traveling 910 miles. Ambulance #4 accounted for 35
runs, traveling 2935 miles. This quarter there were 69 ambulance
runs that were "No haul": patients refused treatment, non -injury
accidents, etc.. Also this quarter there were 7 ambulance runs
where at least two patients were treated and transported. The
total number of ambulance runs for the second quarter of 1994 were
401, with a total mileage traveled of 9013 miles.

All firefighters were involved in fire and emergency medical
training this quarter. The man hours devoted to training were 872.
Of this training 610 man hours were done on -duty and 262 hours were
done off -duty. Some of the training areas involved are listed

Our department flowed, lubricated and checked 214 fire hydrants
this quarter.
Fire prevention activities occurring during the second quarter of
1994 were as follows: 328 commercial building inspections with the
fire marshal reinspecting 10 of the commercial buildings to correct
the more serious problems. The fire marshal is working on 30
commercial building construction projects at this time. The
Kalispell Fire Department was active in the Flathead County Fire
Investigation Team and was involved in 4 fire investigations to
determine cause and origin.
The fire marshal has been very busy with tall grass and weed
complaints, with 94 lots checked in preparation of the fire hazard
season. The City of Kalispell has a Tall Grass Ordinance which
reads," Any tall grass, etc. over 8 inches in height after July 1st
of each year must be cut. If the owner of the property can not be
located or refuses to cut the lot, the lot will be cut and the cost
of the cutting put on the owner's taxes.
Public Fire Safety Activities included fire safety talks, talks and
demonstrations given to various civic, industrial, church and
school groups. These activities contacted 852 people.

Other Kalispell Fire Department contacts were made with 388
students and 22 adults in the form of fire department tours. There
were 16 people who used the Fire Department Chimney Brush Program
this quarter. The Kalispell Firefighters (no taxpayers money)
bought the rods and brushes to be loaned to anyone who needs to
clean their chimney.

KALISPELL POLICE DEPARTMENT MONTHLY SUMMARY
June of 1994 was a busy month for the Kalispell Police
Department which handled a total of 1,172 calls.
The Patrol Division was busy with traffic, issuing 509
citations including 16 DUI arrests. The patrol also investigated
8 injury traffic accidents.
Because of excellent patrol and quick response the shifts of
Sgts. Lanfear and Garner were able to apprehend a subject
burglarizing cars in the Hawthorne area. This arrest eventually
led to the conclusion of five business and one residential burglary
and the recovery of approximately $10,000 worth of stolen property.
91 adult and 44 juvenile arrests were made. Total Fines and
Forfeitures were $36,922.35.
Sgt. Christenson and officer Jacobs attended a 1 week First
Line Supervisor School and a 1 week Field Training Officer School.
Officer Brenden attended a two week DARE School in Billings
and all KPD officers completed Firearms Qualifications.
