RE: Tennis Courts/General Information
Bruce,
Just a quick note to bring you up to date
court proposal/relocation. As you're well
present plan is to relocate the High School
to the city -owned property in the South West
the city shop complex.

The original plan calls for a budget of $120,000 of Tax
Increment funds. Preliminary estimates told us that this
would be more than enough for the relocation of four (4)
courts. The original plan is to develop the city -owned
property behind the city shops bordering School District 5
and Ashley Creek.
As you know, we've received letters from Mr. Howard Fryett,
President FVCC; Mr. Bill Cooper, Superintendent Kalispell
Public Schools; and Dr. Larry Iwersen, President Kalispell
Tennis Association. The letters received are in general
support of the project while addressing individual concerns
of the location and the number of courts.
I have done some investigating on relative costs of tennis
courts determining general expenditures of $14,000-$18,000
per single court and $13,000-$17,000 per court if multiple
courts are constructed. Miles City last year built four
(4) courts for $52,000--complete. Also, I was told that
Big Fork built four (4) separated courts for $60,000. I
think we can intelligently predict construction costs in
the Flathead Valley to be a little above normal --as
evidenced by past bidding practices.
Obviously, the more courts we have constructed, the per -
court -price will drop proportionately. To proceed with
this project we will need direction from council addressing
the number of courts and the desired location.
