SUBJECT: Used Tandem Axle Dump Truck Bid
MEETING: January 6, 201 *
BACKGROUND: Bids for two used tandem axle dump trucks were opened on Thursday,
November 21, 2013. The procurement scope included the purchase of up to two used tandem
axle dump trucks to be used by the Street Division for year around maintenance and construction
activities. Bids were received by two companies, L & M Truck Sales and Freedom Truck
Center.
Bids received for Used Tandem ale Dump Trucks were excessive in comparison of like model
and like specification trucks available to private purchase. Similar trucks available to private
purchase meeting the requested specification have been found in a preliminary search for prices
ranging from $49,750 to $80,000.
Pursuant to Montana Code Annotated 7-5-4302 Cities may purchase vehicles or equipment up to
$80,000 without public advertisement for competitive bids. Staff recommends the purchase of
up to two Used Tandem Axle Dump Trucks, each truck not to exceed $80,000, with a limited
solicitation procurement process.
ACTION REQUESTED: Motion to reject all bids received November 21, 2013 for Used
Tandem ale Trucks.
FISCAL EFFECTS: The purchase will be funded by the Special Streets Fund. A total of
$200,000 has been budgeted for this equipment investment.
