Ordinance 566 - House Sewers584 ORDINANCE NO 566 An Ordinancd amending Section 688, Article XLIV, of Revised Ordinance of the City of Kalispell, Montana, 1947, relating to House Sewers. Be it Ordained by the City Council of the City of Kalispell, Montana; Section 1. That Section 688, Ordinance of the City of Kalispell, hereby amended to re<d as follows: Article XLIV of the revised Montana be and the spme is Section 688. House Sewer. Whenever practicable, every building shall have an independent connection with a public sewer. Where a building stands in the rear of another on the same lot or lots, the house drain from one building may be e-*ended to the other building, and the whole will be considered as one house drain; provided however that the portion of the house sewer not covered by a building with a concrete or masonry £oundption ma:- be of vitrified pipe but the diameter of the conduit must not be reduced from the front building to the public sewer. The house sewer shall be construced of cast iron soil pipe, salt glazed vitrified clay pipe, Johns Mansville Transite pipe or any bituminized pipe. Provided, how-ver, that no transitre or bituminized pipe shall be sued or installed within rhree feet of any building. A permit shall first be obtained from the plumbing inspector for the construction of the sewer. The fee for this permit shall be two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50). Wherever it is necessary to excavate in any street or alley, a separate permit for this purpose must be procured from the proper officials. Measurements shall be obtained to locate the "Y" junctions in the public sewer to which the ho se sewer shall connect. If such junction cannot be found within three feet of the location given, a permit shall be -ranted to tap the sewer under the direction of the plumbing ' inspector. Wherever it is pdssible, pipe shall be laid with a grade of one-fourth inch, or more to the foot. In no case shall a grade of less than one -eight inch to the foot be used. The pipe shall be laid uniformly to line and grade. Change in direction shall be made with one -eighth bends, except where the pipe can be laid upon a circle with a radius exceeding 15 feet, in which case uni- form deflection may be made in each joint. No pipe shall be laid under any building have a concrete or masonry foundation, or within three feet of the same, and wherever such a building is cdnstruced over a vitrified pipe sewer or with in three feet thereof, such sewer shall be removed or relaid with soil pipe of equal inside diameter. All pipe in the main ho se sei%re^ shall have an internal diameter of -not less than four inches. Short branches may have such diameter of four inches and be connected to the main house sewer with "Y" junctions. Wherever possible, the house sew r shall be laid rt suchdepth as to permit the house drain to e ter the building below the level of the basement or cellar floor. When deemed necessary by the Inspector, for the purpose of inspection, no backfilling over the pipe shall be done until permission is given by him. Passed and Approved this 6th day of June, 1949.
