01-21-83 Staff Meeting MinutesJanuary 21, 1983 A clerical staff meeting was held on this date at 3:00 P.M in the conference room. In attendance were: Pat Tinseth, Landa McDowell, Rose Wood, Marge Giermann, Louceal Sinclair, Joyce Olson, Verlene Jensen, Vickie Walters, Markie Sabol, Mayor LeRoy McDowell and Bill Swanson, The mayor complimented the staff on accomplishments for the past year that he has been in office. Problem areas that must be corrected were discussed: The mayor asked that someone in the Clerks office, as well as the receptionist, be told when any office was unmanned for any length of time. He feels that there is too much meddling from outside sources. Mayor McDowell stressed that he certainly was not saying that talk with Council members was discouraged, but the chain of command must be followed. Information, problems, whatever must go through the mayor and/or city clerk. Problems will be relayed through them to Council or other involved persons. When non -confidential information is requested, this should be supplied in a courteous manner to any department, employee, department head, public official, or any other per- son. The mayor cited a situation which has been reported that he feels is nothing more than petty conversation and petty action. He feels that non constructive criticism does nothing more than waste time. Telephone manners and personal phone calls were mentioned. The mayor urged us to stay in contact with our families if problems/health situations occur, but asked that our personal call be brief. New criteria established: The mayor feels that any change or situation in any depart- ment should first be reported to him. Problems can more effectively be coped with if he is aware of the problems, The mayor asked staff members if they had anything to discuss during the meeting. No one responded, He stated that he was always available to any employee. He again stressed that we must work together for an effective city hall. He assured everyone that he would back employees as nearly as possible, but that he had to be aware of what is going on in the various departments. Meeting adjourned at 3:50.
