PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLA_ ON T'HEPLOF, A''Uj DECLARING AN EI'•IERGENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUA;CIL OF THE CITY OF KALISPELL, POITTANA:
The following standards are hereby made applicable to, and shall govern the
maximum dimensions, and weights of motor vehicles, and other characteristics and
factors thereof, operating over streets other than portions of State Highways
in the City of Kalispell, to the exclusion of any other standards or any other
requirements respecting the subject matter:
Section 1. No vehicle, unladen or with load, shall have a total outside width
in excess of ninety-six (96) inches, except busses which may have a total outside
width not to exceed one hundred two (102) inches, and such bus width shall be
allowed only on paved streets twenty (20) feet or more in width.
Section 2. No vehicle, unladen or with load, shall exceed a heitit of thirteen
(13) feet, six (6) inches.
Section 3. No single truck, unladen or with load, shall have an overall length,
inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of thirty-five (35) feet.
Section 4. No single bus, unladen or with load, shall have an overall length,
inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of forty (40) feet.
Section 5. No combination of (1) truck -tractor and semitrailer, (2) truck
and trailer, or other combination of vehicles shall consist of more than two
units except that, at the discretion of the City Council of the City of Kalispell,
Montana, they may permit combinations of vehicles of not more than three units
donsisting of (3) tractor -semitrailer -semitrailer converted to full trailer by
use of a dolly equipped with fifth wheel which shall be considered a part of
the trailer for all purposes and not as a separate unit, or (4) tractor -semitrailer-
full trailer, and no such combination of vehicles, unladen or with load, shall have
an overall length, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of sixty (60)
feet, provided that when the combination consists of more than two (2) units the
rear unit of such combination shall be equipped with breakaway brakes.
Section 6. No motor vehicle shall tow more than one motor vehicle and no motor
vehicle shall draw more than two motor vehicles attached thereto by the dual
saddlemount method, that is by mounting the front wheels of one vehicle on the
bed of another leaving the rear wheels only of such vehicle in contact with the
roadway, nor shall such combination have an overall length, inclusive of front
and rear bumpers, in excess of sixty (60) feet.
Section 7. Vehicles equipped u;ith solid rubber on cushion tires shall be operated
at a speed not in excess of ten (10) miles per hour.
Section 8. No gxl.e shall carry a load in excess of twelve thousand (12,000)
pounds. An axle load shall be defined as the total load transmitted to the road
by all wheels whose centers may be included between two (2) parallel transverse
vertical planes forty (1!0) inches apart, extendin- across the full width of the
vehicle.
Section 9. The maximum axle and axle group loads stated in Section 8 are siibject
to reasonable reduction in the discretion of the City Council of the City of Kalispell,
Montana, during periods w1:en road arc street sr' ;ra.les have been weakened by water
saturation or other cause.
' Section 10. The operation of vehicles or combinations of vehicles having dimensions
or weights in excess of the maximwn limits herein recommended small be permitted
onli, if and when authorized by special permit issued by the City Council of the
City of Kalispell, Montana, or its officers, supervisors or agents acting pursuant
to duly delegated authority from said Council, which permit may require the per-
formance of certain conditions or the furnishing of certain safeguards and protections
by the person or firm operating such vehicle.
Section 11. This Ordinance shall not be applicable to trucks and other vehicles
traveling on any portion of a State Highway within the City limits of Kalispell.

Section 12. Every person or corporation who violates this Ordinance shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less
than $10.00 nor more than ,$150.00 or imprisoned in the City jail for a period
not exceeding 30 days or both such fine and imprisonment.
Section 13. This Ordinance shall become effective forthwith upon the passage
hereof, it being passed as a police regulation for the protection of the public
within the limits of the City of Kalispell, Montana, and it is hereby de6lared
to be an emergency measure.
