05-05-87 Shade Tree Commission MinutesSHADE TREE COMMISSION MEETING
MAY 5, 1987
The Commission met at 4:00 P. M. in the Council Chambers with all members
present. Chairman Brannon introduced Director of Public Works Ken Hammer,
who explained the public works program on street reconstruction for this
year.
The availability of funds for tree replacement or new plantings in the Tax
Increment District was discussed, specifically in the reconstruction of
Third Avenue East for about five blocks. Designating this area a
demonstration project after construction, with replacement of trees where
needed and proper spacing and pruning were items decided upon.
Questions were raised about the trees located on loth Street West in the
reconstruction area in the 200 block, but DPW Hammer explained that these
trees need not be removed.
The possibilities of landscaping on 2nd Avenue E.N. off Idaho Street, near
Stoick Drug and Bonanza Store were discussed, with Parks Director Drent and
Public Works Director Hammer to look into this further.
Chairman Brannon reported on the progress being made in the discussions
regarding the downtown parking lots with Community Development and the
Parking Commission. Funding for maintenance of these projects (Eagle's
Parking lot and the lot on Main and 3rd Street) and other lots as well, was
debated.
• Parks Director Drent showed a short video of a new ladder truck and compared
this to the one currently in use by the city.
The next meeting was set for May 26th at 4:00 P. M. with reports of the
different sub -committees on the agenda. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P.M.
