03-03-87 Shade Tree Commission MinutesSHADE TREE C=4ISSION March 3, 1987 The Committee met at 4:00 P.M. in the Conference Room. Chairman Brannon, Committee members Martinson, Albright and Otten, Councilman Manning and Parks Director Drent were present. As first order of business a list was prepared of trees acceptable for planting in public sites. It was understood that at a later date a more detailed and extensive listing will be drawn up. An inspection of trees planted on First Avenue East in the sidewalks, between Center and Third Streets was made. It was noted that the maples are in dire need of pruning and several other trees, mostly a prunus cultivar, should never have been planted in the area. The condition of trees at Depot Park and the need for removal of some of them for better spacing/growing room was discussed with Director Drent. The group then returned to City Hall and the trimming by Pacific Power Company crews was discussed. Mayor Kennedy and Director Drent met with Lee Carothers of PP& L previously, concerns of the Tree Commission were brought to his attention and cooperation was promised. The commission approved a new Parks Department policy which proposes that an individual request for pruning or tree removal will be done on an emergency only basis until a permanent tree care program is established. • The next meeting was set for March 24th at City Hall at 4:00 P.M. Chairman Brannon will invite the Urban Forester from Missoula to attend. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P. M. Pieter M.
