SHADE TREE COMMITTEE
The Committee met at 4:00 P. M. in the Conference Room. In attendance were
Mayor Kennedy, Councilman Manning, Committee Members Bill Wright, Al Martinson,
Ed Brannon, Bette Albright, Georgia Otten and Parks Director Drent.
Mayor Kennedy opened the meeting, introduced the members and thanked them
for their willingness to serve. The Mayor announced that Mr. Dale Haarr has
decided not to serve on this committee.
By unanimous vote Ed Brannon was elected Chairman and Bette Albright was
elected Vice -Chairman. At this time Mayor Kennedy turned the meeting over to
Chairman Brannon.
After appointing Parks Director Drent as Secretary of the Commission. Chair-
man Brannon, with the help of several charts, pointed out the duties of the Com-
mission as prescribed in the Tree Ordinance.
A discussion followed on the existing problems with trees in Kalispell, old
as well as newly planted trees, the availability of information and assistance
from other agencies, ways to get the general public informed and an annual street
tree program. - ^ 1
It was decided to meet again on Tuesday, February 17 and March 3 at 4:00 P.M.
and on those dates make a visual inspection of some of the problem areas in town.
Parks Director Drent will prepare an itinerary.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P.M.

The Commission met at City Hall at 4:00 P. M. present were Chairman Brannon,
members Bill Wright, Al Martinson, Bette Albright, Georgia Otten and Parks Direc-
tor Drent.
A tour was made of several avenues and streets of Kalispell with Drent pointing
out the problems the Parks Department runs into trying to maintain the trees.
The results of Pacific Power topping trees on North Main were observed, as were
the number of large Elms on Third Avenue West. The results of, spacing trees many
years ago on the east side of Fifth Avenue East, while the west side was not touched
were noted. Also, Third Avenue East was seen, where the road is to be resurfaced.
Many other trees were observed in other areas.
The Commission returned to City Hall at 5:35
