12-14-82 S&W Comm MinutesPRESENT WERE MAYOR MCDOWELL, COUNCILMEN RUIZ, O'BOYLE, SAVERUD, NYSTUL; TOM FLYNN,
DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS HAFFERMAN, WATER SUPT. HUGHES.
Councilman Ruiz presided. The purpose of the meeting was to decide whether or not
the committee would recommend the sewer rate increase proposal.
Carl Schrade, representing Trinity Lutheran Church, addressed the committee with
a request for an adjustment for sprinkling at the Church. A meter was placed for
sprinkling only at the school, but the plumbing is not suitable for installing
a sprinkling meter for the Church. This year a new couple took care of the maint-
enance and did more sprinkling. 1981 the Church used 113,000 gallons - 1982 they
used 253,000. Last year the bill was $95.10 for the heavy sprinkling months and
this year it is $453.00. They are willing to put in a separate meter by next year,
so this is a one time request.
The Committee recommended that Mr. Schrade furnish attendance records for the two
time periods to Supt. Hughes who will then determine the amount of the adjustment.
Councilman Nystul asked for a progress report on the EPA grant. Director of P. W.
Hafferman replied that we have had no word from Helena or Washington D. C. -It
depends a great deal on whether we are allowed a settlement from our lawsuits with
Purifax and Morrison-Maierle.
Discussion on our permit to handle sludge.
Councilman Nystul moved that the committee recommend that the Council pass a
resolution to raise the sewer rate 12%. Seconded by Councilman Saverud. Carried.
Discussion on the installation of the storm sewer on lst and 7th Avenues West. There
are two instances of water pipes freezing that did not freeze previous to the
installation. Supt. Hughes to find out if the water pipes were raised when the storm
drains were constructed.
Meeting adjourned at 5:10 P. M.
