11-26-84 Safety Comm Minutes4:00 P. M. - November 26, 1984
SAFETY COMMITTEE
The committee met in the Conference Room, present were Chairman Schindler, Com-
40 members Grainger and Saverud, Councilmen Manning, Nystul, Palmer and Ruiz,
Police Chief Stefanic, Mayor McDowell, DPW Hammer, Roger Hopkins, DIL, Ed Johnson
Maintenance Chief and Archie Little, both of the Highway Department.
Bids on Police Cars
Chairman Schindler asked for Chief Stefanic's recommendation on the bids, which was 1
to go with Roy Stanley's low bid with trade-in of both cars. He pointed out that
the figures given for the bench seat which comes closest to the. specs for the 50/50
seat @ $311 is still lower than the other bid and requested the seats be included.
C. Grainger stated that he agreed with the recommendation and moved that the low
bid of Roy Stanley be accepted, with trade in of two cars and to include bench
seats. C. Saverud seconded the motion, all voted aye. Carried.
The City Clerk will be instructed to return the bid bond to Tannehill Auto.
U.S. Highway #93 South Traffic Study/Situation
C. Schindler stated that DPW Hammer was asked to get'together with the Highway De-
partment to create a safer situation. A lot of work has been done with concrete
bumpers.
Ed Johnson presented a -drawing with changes in approach locations; unfixed approaches
can be easily modified. He stated that everything has been completed except for the
approaches to Rosauers and that the manager of Mini Mart concerned about the loss .
of business if one access is closed off in Mini Mart property.
C. Palmer stated that he does not consent to closing access until people are noti-
fied. He pointed out that the Mini Mart property has had traffic going through for
years, closing an access could present a considerable problem.
C. Saverud agreed. He stated that we want to encourage the Highway Department to do
whatever should be done in the interest of safety, but does not feel that we are in
a position to close accesses or not.
It was generally agreed that any access closure would be an improvement. Ed Johnson
stated that approaches have been narrowed down from 60-70' to 401.
M & M Building
DPW Hammer announced that another Safety Committee will be needed early in December
regarding the M&M building demolition. Specs will be written and bid will be awarded
at that committee meeting. Time does not allow for this to be presented to the
December 3 Council Meeting because of the state law waiting period for publications.
The committee will request power to award the bid. DPW Hammer will be setting the
date of that meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 4:25.
