10-26-84 Safety Comm MinutesSTREET & ALLEY/SAFETY COMMITTEES The combined committees met in the Conference Room at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, October 26, 1984 in an emergency meeting. The meeting was called regarding the M&M building for discussion of safety procedures necessary in the course of action for the City to follow. Present were Street & Alley Chairman Palmer, Safety Chairman Schindler, in the absence of Police Chief, Detective Don Hossack, Fire Marshall Bowman, Mayor McDowell, City Attorney Neier, DPW Hammer and Building Official Petersen. After a 45 minute discussion, the committee made an inspection of the building to determine the safest policy. It was decided to allow one -lane traffic only as a temporary measure. City Attorney Neier was instructed to follow through with the action he has started in rerefence to abatement on an emergency demolition action. The general consensus was to post a Special Council meeting for Monday, October 29, for the purpose of course of action for the safety of the public as well as to re- store business to normal. It should be duly noted that Building Official Petersen, Fire Marshall Bowman, DPW Hammer and City Attorney Neier's recommendations were to close the street and side- walk through the half block.
