07-01-87 Parks Comm MinutesParks and Finance Joint Meeting July 1, 1987 • The meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm., by Parks Chairman Manning. Councilmembers Robinson and Nystul, Mayor Kennedy, Clerk/Treasurer Halver, Dennis Carver of Carver Engineering and Larry Schultz of the Lakers also attended. Chairman fanning called upon Dennis Carver to report on the bids for Phase II of Griffin Field Construction. Dennis reported he had been working with the low bidder, Robert W. Ross, to reduce costs of the building and had been able to trira about $17,000 from the total cost, with another $2,000 possible. Cost reductions proposed included less expensive lighting and plumbing fixtures in the building, lower the building elevation and eliminate most concrete work including the ramps. Carver suggested the city Pay be able to buy the portable aluminum bleachers directly and install them. This could save about $6,976. Another possible saving could be achieved if the dugouts were not built or built by volunteers. This could save $12,750-. It was also suggested the city handle the paving under the bleachers for a possible savings of $3,400. • Carver reported there is no cost cutting available in the Lighting bid but the apparent low bidder had offered to donate $4,000 toward the cost of the light poles. The total amount bid, including light poles, was $169,963 and the budget available is about $100,000. After considerable discussion on priorities and essential parts of the project, the committee recuested Dennis Carver work on the possibility of redesigning the building, installing only half of the bleachers, and any other ideas on ways to meet the budget. The committee will meet again to prepare a recommendation to be made to the council at the July 20, 1987 regular council meeting.
