Swimming Pool
A financial report for the 1986 swimming season was presented, a copy of

charged to equipment maintenance, explaining the high cost of that budget
item.
Problems with family passes were discusssed, as' well as the accounting
difficulties. Longer evening swimming hours were also discussed.
A meeting between Pool Manager Mortenson, Parks Director Drent and the
auditors will be set up -as -soon -as feasible
Drainage problems on the decks and in dressing rooms, sealing of joints and
loose fiberglass are still to be corrected before final acceptance and
the bond released. Director Drent will contact Carver Engineering regarding
• these items. See addendum.
Swimming fees, better advertising of the programs available in the pool and
private swimming parties were discussed. The City Attorneys opinion will
be sought on the latter.
Mortenson reported on the concession stand operation. The idea of the City
operating the stand was taken under consideration and will be studied
further.
Mayor Kennedy and the Parks Committee expressed their appreciation and
thanks to the pool manager for a job well done.
Parks Director Drent has been contacted by the County Parks Department
regarding a U of M Parks & Recreation student as a trainee for a summer
program. This will be further investigated.

• Begg Park & American Legion Field
Progress was reported on the need to decide on a final amount to be repaid
to the City out of the sale of Griffin Park before any further commitments
were made. The possibility of work to be contracted -before sale of Griffin
Park and paid after the sale -was debated. City Attorney Neier will issue a
legal opinion on this possibility.
Miscellaneous
Some discussion was held regarding the article in the Daily Inter Lake of
October 9 on an investigation that has taken place dealing with the work
done at Begg Park. Mayor Kennedy assured Director Drent that there is no
longer an investigation and that there was never any question of Drent's
wrong doing.
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 P. M.

9 Addendum:
A meeting was held on Wednesday, October 22nd, 10:00 A.M. with Dennis Carver
of Carver Engineering, D. Meredith of Stewart & Meredith and Parks Director
Drent. Mr. Meredith is to contact the city in writing on how he intends to
correct the remaining problems. It appears that Stewart & Janes, the
original contractor, is no longer in existence. Mr. Meredith has purchased
the company, is willing to do what he can but seem reluctant to spend funds
without assurance that they will be refunded by Stewart & Janes.
