PARKS COMMITTEE
The committee met in the Conference Room; in attendance were C. Manning, who chaired
in C. Springer's absence, C. Member Nystul, C. Schindler, DPW Hammer, Parks Supt.
Drent, Engineer Dennis Carver, and Roger Hopkins, DIL.
Carver presented drawings and explained the new concept of traffic pattern which
allows traffic to enter, go to dressing rooms and out to swim pool or directly out
to the wading pool. Public restrooms with outside access will serve the wading pool
and non -swimmers in the park. The size of the mechanical, dressing rooms and storage
square footage is very close to what we had before. The square footage meets the
demands for capacity of pool and plans also include a small office and concession
area.
Engineer Carver stated that costs are trying to be kept within the previous swimming
pool budget. An additional 420 sq. ft. has been included in the. proposal. If it is
decided that the extra footage is not wanted, plans can be changed back to the same
size. The wading pool will be fenced. The mechanical room will be in areversed
location because of the previous chlorine problem and some piping will have to be
changed.
Discussion followed on itemssuch as facilities for handicapped, the question of whether
devices to the pool itself will be needed will have to he -addressed. It will be a per-
manent building, either cement blocks or pre -cast panels are being considered. Also
which type shingles, fence heights and tree removal around the pool where the deck will
be widened were mentioned. The interior plans havent been developed but it should be
very durable and easy to clean. Carver will bring those details before the committee
at a later date.
46 Carver is still trying to fit costs within the previous budget. Septic system use
with the additional facilities will have to be addressed. It was felt that roughing
in space for concession stand would be better done now than adding later.
C. Manning asked where we are in knowing what we need when the bond:issue passes next
month so that materials can be ordered. Carver wants to get the preliminary stages
settled and the target has been to bid early enough on hard to get items such as
filters and chlorinators. He and Drent both stated they would like to be able to
operate the pool for a month this summer. It is very improtant that the pool go into
operation for some time during the season to ensure that everything is in order.
Carver stated that he would like to meet with the committee at least 2 more times
prior to completion on both indoor and outdoor details, then will ask to go to bid.
C. Manning said there was no point in going too far without getting the whole con-
cept approved. This will be requested at the meeting of the Council as a Whole on
Monday, October 29.
C. Nystul suggested that the sketches be displayed in the Conference Room. Supt.
Drent will contact each Council member and Geoffrey Hughes for swimming organization
input. It is hoped to have a concensus reported to Carver after Monday's meeting.
At the November 5 Council Meeting we can clarify whether there are objections to
the committee, and other interested persons, proceeding with plans and drawings to
final stage.
Meeting adjourned at 4:35.
