Parks, Airoort & Golf Course Committee
The Parks, Airport & Golf Course Committee met on this date at
10:30 a.m. at the Law Offices of Chairman Springer, and thereafter
adjourned to Woodland Park for the purpose of viewing (or inspect-
ing) Bruckhauser Pool. In attendance were Councilmen Springer,
Manning, and Schindler. Parks Superintendent Drent was also in
attendance, and provided a tour of the facility.
Drent directed the attention of those present to problem areas,
including a complete tour of the change house and mechanical works.
Upon completion of the tour, those present, including Mr. Crone
from the Daily Inter Lake, returned to Springer's offices where a
general and thorough discussion concerning pool problems was held.
Chairman Springer raised two areas of immediate concern: 1) the
matter of getting the pool question on the June primary balot, and
2) the immediate need to take action to remove the wooden frame
building at the pool site. Discussion followed, including -the time
factor for getting the matter on the ballot, and the fact that it
might face problems if the County Jail matter likewise was on the
ballot. In addition, the issue of potential for vandalism and
damage, and liability to the city in the event that something is
not done to remove the existing wooden structure was discussed. It
was concluded that in any event, the building should be removed,
and as much material and equipment as possible should be salvaged.
The Parks Director is simply waiting for the direction of the
Council to act. It was agreed that at least that much must be done,
even if the matter was not put on the ballot, or if it ultimately
was not successful
The Chairman moved, and Councilman Manning seconded the following
motions, which were both unanimously carried:
1. That the City Council authorize the Parks Director to
remove the wooden structure from the Bruckhauser Pool site, and
salvage whatever material and equipment that he could, and in
addition, to do such other work as would aid site protection,
restoration or preparation for the future.
2. That the Pool reconstruction measure be placed once again
on the balLot (June Primary) in the same form and manner as it
previously appeared, with the understanding that the City Council
would be looking to the voters for advise and direction, and with
the further understanding that existing plans be reviewed to assure
the expenditure of the minimum amount necessary to repair or recon-
struct the pool if the measure is successful in June.
There followed a discussion concerning the extent to which the City
• Council should promote or participate in the promotion of the Pool
measure, and the necessity of reviewing the existing plans support-
