• PARKS/FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING
The combined committees met in the Conference Room, present were Councilmen
Mannning, Nystul, Ruiz, Palmer, DPW Ken Hammer, Mayor Ed Kennedy, Parks
Director Pieter Drent, Roger Hopkinn, DIL, and briefly, Chief Martin
Stefanie.
There was some discussion on the water and sewer project at Begg Field.
Two proposals were received on finishing the sewer line across Airport Road,
hooking into the main trunk line. LHC bid was $9,680.00 for labor with the
City providing materials. The Holm Sutherland bid on our Main Sewer Phase I
project was $19,800.00. The committee made a motion to let LHC do the
sewer line for the labor at $9,680.00.
There was discussion on the rest of the work at Begg Field. The work that
needs to be done right away is the leveling and seeding of the property in
the area of the ballfields. Mr. Lun Owens is working presently in that
area and he will do the leveling for $6,500.00. An additional cost of about
$4,000.00 will be expended for additional leveling after settling has taken
place. It was decided that since this project of leveling would cost
approximately $12,500, there would be a $6,000 savings at this time, to let
Mr. Owens go ahead and do the project. It was the general consensus of the
members present to allow Owens to do the leveling for $6,500. Billing for
this will be after July 1 for that project.
• The committee recommended that DPW Hammer have a memo of all expenditures on
Begg Park for later transfer of monies received from sale or related to
Griffin Field back into the respective departments. Parks money will be
used to pay the $6,500.00 to Owens.
Discussion followed on the Veteran's monument at Depot Park. The estimate
came well over $25,000 so that project has now been scrapped back to square
one and it was suggested that they use the original monument that was in
Depot Loop Park.
There was also discussion of the tree project along Main Street and First
Avenue East. Pieter is to look up the original Council minutes roughly in
the summer of 1978 to see what the original agreement was with the KDC on
the trees and whose responsibility they would be. After the minutes are
reviewed, the Mayor will write a letter with the results of those minutes as
to who has the responsibility for all work on the trees lining our Main/
First Avenue East areas.
It was moved that we adjourn; this was done at approximately 5:20 P. M.
