02-25-85 Annexation CommitteeANNEXATION COMMITTEE
The Annexation Committee met at 4:00 p.m. on February 25, 1985 it the
Conference Room at City Hall. Members present were Chairman Saverud, Manning,
Springer and Nystul. Also present were Mayor McDowell, Ed Gallagher, City
Attorney Neier and Roger Hopkins, DIL.
A correction to the Parks/Annexation/City Development meeting Minutes of
February 19, 1985 should read Saverud as Chairman rather than Manning.
Chairman Saverud told the group that a response had been received from
the Post Office relative to the purchase of the Griffin Park field for relocation
of the post office facility. A copy of that letter is attached to these Minutes.
It indicates a willingness to "pursue the exchange of land'.' but that "the formal
site selection process is far from complete and the City/BN site must still
compete for selection with the other sites disclosed. . ."
After some discussion, the Committee decided to table making a decision
as to the;_fair market value of Griffin Park at this time and to wait until
we know what route we are taking, i.e., whether the post office is purchasing
the property or whether we have another interested party.
Manning stressed that the monies accrued from the sale of Griffin need
• to be also mandated for development of the land for the new field and not just
used to purchase the lands.

Dear Ed:
I find the recent City Council resolution to pursue the exchange of
land with the Postal Service most encouraging. The matter has been dis-
cussed with Bob Chapman, General Manager of the Real Estate Division, who
advised me to proceed in negotiations and to cooperate with you in any
way possible toward that end. I feel confident that an offer can be
generated that will be to the best _interest of both the Postal Service
and the City of Kalispell. -T
Please forward to me information about the property the City wishes
to acquire in exchange for Griffin Filed, so that we can proceed as soon
as possible. Let me reitterate, however, that the formal site selection
process is far from complete and the City/BN site must still compete for
selection with the, other sites disclosed to.you during our last meeting.
Let us not be disuaded from .pursuing our exchange with all available
• haste.
Sincerely,
R.L. Robinson
