REGULAR MEETING
Regular Monthly Meeting of the Kalispell City Council held August 1, 1960,
7:30 P. M.
Mayor Hammer presided. Councilmen Fisher, Haddow, Homuth, Horstman, Huggins,
Metcalf, and Ryder were present. Harmon absent.
Minutes of regular meeting -of July 5th and special meeting of July 19th
were read. Moved by Horstman, seconded by Homuth, be approved as read. Carried.
Minutes of special meeting of July 25th were read. Moved by Ryder minutes
be approved as read. Seconded and carried.
Reports of City Officials
Chief of Police for July approved on motion of Homuth, seconded by Haddow.
Police Judge for July on motion of Ryder, seconded by HuF;;ins.
City Engineer for July on motion of Fisher, seconded by Haddow.
City Clerk for June on motion of Metcalf, seconded by Fisher.
City Treasurer for June on motion of Homuth, seconded by ?yder.
Health Officer for June on -notion of Huggins, seconded by Ha(Yow.
Moved by Metcalf that Don Renken, having served 6 months probationary period
be appoi.ated'a regular police officer by the Mayor. Seconded and carried.
?loved by Metcalf that the City refuse to contribute to the cost of the install-
ation of a stop light at 5th Ave. East :North and Idaho Street proposed by the
Highway Commission. Seconded by Huggins and carried.
Addressing the Council:
Phil Peterson of the Mosquito Control Board proposed the City operate a land
fill dump in Northeast section of Woodland Park to eliminate a breeding area.
- Jim Hoffman of Phillips Petroleum Company requested 2 - 40 ft. curb cuts
at new station on Idaho and North Main. Moved by Huggins this he referred to
Sidewalk and Curb Committee with power to act. Seconded by Haddow and carried.
J. Austin Miller presented a petition signed by a majority of property owners
on Railroad Street, requesting name of street be changed to "Center Street."
It was moved by Haddow that Resolution No. , a resolution of intention
to change the name of Railroad Street from the Easterly to the Westerly City
limit boundaries to "Center Street." Motion seconded by Fisher and carried.
Moved by Huggins that Leslie Cochran be appointed Deputy Police. Judge to
replace Palmer Christopherson while on vacation in September. Seconded by Homuth
and carried.
Chief of Police requested leave of absence for a patrolman because of wife's
sickness. Matter given to Chief with power to act.
A letter of demand for action by the City from Attorneys Mahan & Mahan of -
Helena, representing Maude Wiedman, to open 2 blocks of 4th Ave. W. N. and a block
of Oregon St. was received. Referred to City Attorney for a reply and to Street
and Alley Committee for further investigation.
Renewal Oil Burner Bond of Glen N. Ford was approved on motion of Homuth,
seconded by Metcalf and carried.
The Council adjourned on motion of Homuth, seconded by Fisher.
