Regular meeting of the Kalispell City Council held May 11, 1964, 7:30 P.M.
Mayor Flynn presiding with all Councilmen present:
Minutes of regular meeting of May 4th were read. Smyser moved minutes as
amended be approved. Seconded and carried.
Reports of Committees:
Sidewalk and Curb Committee, - Roberts moved adoption of Resolution No. 2528,
a resolution ordering curbs and sidewalks in at locations as shown in the resolu-
tion. Seconded by Smyser. On roll call vote all Councilmen voted for adoption
of the resolution.
Roberts moved that Council call for bids for the annual contract for con-
struction of sidewalks and curbs for the fiscal year of 1964-65. Seconded by
Smyser and carried.
Turner, Sewer -Water Committee, -Recommended larger pump to handle full
capacity of new water well and moved that the City Engineer and Water Works
Superintendent be authourized to negotiate with the Layne -Minnesota Company for
the '`purchase of a larger pump. Seconded by Lenon and carried.
Lenon, Street and Alley, - Reported Committee had accepted bid of -Mountain
View Paving for crushed gravel and bid of McElroy & Wilken for crushed chips.
Ellingson, Employment Committee, - Recommended employment of Bob Woodland,
member of Fire Department. Mayor Flynn then appointed Bob Woodland a Fireman for
6 months probationary period, effective June 1, 1964. Lenon moved confirmation,
seconded and carried.
Ellingson moved that call for bids be made for purchase of -new accounting
machine for combined use of Water '.forks Department and Clerk's office. Seconded
by Lenon and carried. Mayor appointed Vernon Homuth, special committee to work
with Burroughs Representative on call for bids.
Following bonds were approved on motion by Smyser, seconded and carried.

Ivan Ibsen Plumber's Bond
Louise and Robert-�Monk Pawn Broker Bond
(The 'Trading Post"and Pawn Shop)
Harold M. Anderson Electricians Bond
Mrs. Charles Glass, residing near the City land fill dump, complained of the
odor And wind: blown paper, said dump should be closed at night to prevent dumping
of garbage that can'not,u°:be covered untill next day.
Moose Miller asked for approval to close off Main Street from Center to 5th
Street, Friday May 15th for Centenial celebration. Smyser moved approval subject
to approval of individual merchants effected. Seconded by Lenonr and carried.
Bjorneby moved adjournment. Seconded by Smyser and carried.
After adjournment the Council met informally with a group of members of the
Chamber'of Commerce.
'Representatives from the Chamber included President Charles Powell, and some
of the Directors, Secretary Mason and a Committee headed by Bob Kirk on Parking
Meters.
A 'general discussion followed on ways to improve; the parking situation.
Mayor Flynn appointed a committee of Frank Lenon, Councilman, Police Chief and
Fire Chief to confer with a Chamber Committee of Bob Kirk, Tom Harmon, Hal Holden
and,Chuck Mercord.
Read and approved as read this 8th day of June 1964.
